Hey Guys,
Being in Dadar we couldn’t miss walking down the beach and having Kulfi, Barf Gola and other impromptu.
Big hello to all the
hoggers and non-hoggers too. I love to write things up, but this is the first
time I am writing a food blog. Hope this will be an interesting way to connect
with all my friends and friends-to-be.
First of all let us get introduced. I am a Mumbai girl in my twenties, lazy, crazy, traveler, reader, writer, and big big
big Foodie. I believe in visiting new places and outlets and eating random
famous foods there, at odd hours and that leads to this Food-a-thon.
Now, moving to our Food-a-thon, Hogg-Spree or whatever you wish to call it the
important thing is IT's ALL ABOUT FOOD πππ. We (me, my
BFF, my sister and my BFF's Brother) made a random Hogg-Spree and out of the blue plan in mid-week on a Wednesday. We covered 10 famous outlets in and
around Mumbai. And this is how it went.
It's Cafe Irani
Chaii where we begun our Food-a-thon because Breakfast is the most
important meal of the day. Irani cafes have been a must-eat spot for every
foodie since the existence of such cafes. I have visited few of the Irani cafe, but believe me this is one of a kind.It is located at MMC Road,
Mahim. They have a perfect range of Irani
menu listed, with appropriate ambience, lovely servers and super great chef. We
chose the regulars from their menu, which goes like Kheema Paav, Brun Maska
and Irani Chai(aka Pani-kam Chai), Akuri and to end with a mawa cake. You
all must know my mouth’s watering right now while writing
this blog. The Kheema
here is superb and a personal recommendation and the Akuri (an egg prep.) just
melts in your mouth. You may also try their other preparations like Burji and
range of Omelettes.
2. Kirti College Vada Pav:
Our second stop was
Mumbai ka famous Ashok Vada Pav. If you are on a food-a-thon and a Mumbaikar, Vada Pav is a must food on the list. Out of the pretty many famous Vada Pav stall
we visited Ashok Vada Pav Stall (famously known as Kirti college ka Vada Pav). It’s
a perfect blend of spice and crunch.
The USP is the Chura he puts in the Pav along with Vada and his special chutneys. There are other choices if you don’t wish to have Vada Pav but this is highly recommended.

3. Maddy Snack Corner:
Now the third stop. Not
so famous but yes a real treat for a sandwich lover, Maddy Snack Corner. There’s
a list of sandwiches you can try here grill and toast, pizzas. We had a tried and tested Masala Cheese Toast.
Tip: If you plan for 5 or more places to eat in a day. Try and balance things. Choose spots wisely so that you don't give up half way through your Food-athon.

4. Guru Kripa:
This was my favourite stopover, our fourth one. Guru Kripa, it is located at Sion near SIES College. Such an awesome food point, crazy-wide range of menu to shortlist
from. They specialise in Snacks, Lunches, Street food, Chat, Ice-Creams and all
other food items. Their speciality is Samosa-Pattice Ragda (famously known as
Mara-mari), Dahi Vada, Falooda, Gajar ka Halwa, Chole Bhature and the list may go on. As we
were almost half way through we shortened our order to Samosa, Ragda Pattice,
Dahi Vada and Gulab Jamun. You may be super full but do not miss the Pani-Puri here π.
5. Elco:
That was our fifth stopover the famous Elco Market restaurant. It is located at Hill road, Bandra. You can have street food here in perfect Mumbai style standing on the footpath, or they also have a nice seating where you can relax, chat and enjoy the food. This place is famous for Pani-Puri and Chole Bhature. We took Pani-Puri and Cheese Sev Puri here. You may try other delicacies too. Also you can shop around, for this is a street full of shops where you get clothes, footwear, accessories and many more. (Also it helps to digest all that you have had π)
6. Hearsch Bakery :
Another favourite spot of mine. The very famous Hearsch Bakery, also located at Hill Road, Bandra our sixth stopover. They serve the yummiest Rolls, Roti Wraps, Burger, Puffs, Cutlets, Lollipops. Their menu further expands to Biryani, Fried Rice, Chicken & Veg Gravy. And to end up with you may have Pastry, Mousse, Custard, Tart and many more. We had the Mutton and Chicken rolls, Chicken Burger, Roti Wrap and Fresh Lime Juice. And trust me we were super dizzy.
7. Pure Milk Centre :
Though we were so full we left for our seventh stop, the Pure Milk Centre. It’s located at Ghatkopar East, Vikrant Circle. A small outlet but super crowded as it is already on the social network for their famous Cheese Burst Dosa. A Dosa which oozes out liquid cheese giving you a pleasure, just looking at it. It’s the best kind of Dosa I have ever had (P.S. I may kill for cheese). You may try the simple Cheese Burst Dosa or the Masala Cheese Burst Dosa as these are their specialties. We opted for the masala one and mind you guys the first bite of it was heavenly. It is super tasty but super heavy. Having an entire Dosa even on empty stomach would be a challenge.
8. Shahi Durbar :
After so much of hogging, a palette cleanser is needed and that’s when we ended up at Shahi Durbar at Viviana Mall, Thane our eighth stopover. This is an outlet for Fruit Juices, Shakes, Ice-creams and Faloodas. You may just relax in the mall at the big foodzone or just shop around (If you are left with any moneyπ). We simply took the extreme end table, relaxed and digested the food.
9. Coco Basil :
And now the second last i.e. the ninth hault of our Food Spree, Coco Basil, at Manpada Thane. After resorting at Viviana not on an empty stomach, but ready for the most awaited hault. And here we decide to feast because it’s an Italian CafΓ©. It’s a small place with lovely sitting, and super confusing menu to choose from. We decide on Masala French Fries, Cheese Garlic Bread, Grillo Supreme Chicken, Rosto Pepper Chicken, Alfredo Pasta, Paprika Pasta, Exotica Pizza, Texas BBQ Pizza. You must be wondering this much after the day we had (Yes we are Hoggers, crazy onesπ).
Must to write is, the food is Super Yummy out here and we were officially dead full.
10. Boston Cupcakery:
Here's where the Spree is coming
to an end, just the last one left. The tenth one, the Boston Cupcakery. They have
three outlets in Mumbai at Andheri Lokhandwala, Bandra Pali Hill and Thane Viviana
Mall. We visited the last one (Thane outlet). They serve wide range of mouth watering cupcakes,
brownies, shakes. We chose individual favourites
Red Velvet, Chocolate City, Mocha Menace, Kitkat and Apple Caramel Cupcake. The
best one was Red Velvet cupcake with cheese cream icing. For such a long day,
full of food there is no other way to end it than deserts.
It was a Super long, happy, fun, food filled day for us. Everyone out there must take such day off with their loved ones. It gives us a break from our regular work schedule, stress relief, and super memories.
Speacial thanks to my Squad : Prajakta, Namrata and Vithal. We need such crazy people to execute such crazy plans.
We'll be back soon with even more crazy, lengthier food day ASAP.
Till then keep hogging and exploring new places,
Chaitali Kolgaonkar
